“[President Obama] was caught on video saying people like to cling to their guns and religion,” Ryan said. “Hey, I’m a Catholic deer hunter. I am happy to be clinging to my guns and my religion.”
(Sportsmen Vote Poll: Does Paul Ryan increase or decrease the likelihood you’ll vote for Mitt Romney?)
The soundbite is yet another example of Ryan touting his hunting credentials to help Mitt Romney secure the sportsman vote. However, with the election just weeks away, there are some who question the Ryan pick–including quiet rumblings among the GOP establishment. According to polling data including our own, Ryan is doing very well among sportsmen, but has he done enough? Has he simply gained the support of politically conservative sportsmen–who would vote for any alternative to Obama–or has he actually drawn moderate voters to the Romney ticket?
With the election essentially a dead heat, we likely won’t know until November.
What do you think? Has Ryan served as a unifying force for sportsmen?
